The last of the great pleasure piers is situated at the western- most end of Route 66. Games, rides, an historic carousel, shops, cafes and restaurants are plentiful in this unique setting with panoramic views of the ocean and the Santa Monica Mountains.

The famed Santa Monica Pier a landmark since 1908 brings the city the joy and nostalgia of its halcyon days at the turn of the century. Reminiscent of a time when ornate, domed-topped buildings with fluttering flags lined the boardwalk, the pier's historic carousel, arcades, cafes, restaurants and shops are a never-ending source of entertainment. The entire pier is being renovated to restore it to its former splendor.

Winter storms in 1983 destroyed an entire lower deck of the pier, where for a brief period in its history, pleasure craft moored before departing for Catalina Island. A state-0f-the-art extension, which adhered to strict guidelines that the pier retain its Victorian-era look, and the addition of a fishing platform have been completed.
