The Huntington is a research institution, educational and cultural center serving both
scholars and the general public. The library has a rich collection in the fields of
British and American history and literature. The Art Gallery, originally the H. E.
Huntington home contains one of the finest collections of British and French 18th century
art in America, including Gainsborough's "Blue Boy." Botanical gardens cover 150
acres of the 207 acre grounds, with more than 14,000 different kinds of plants.
The Huntington is open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 1 - 4:30 p.m., and
Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Patio Restaurant is open Tuesdays
through Sundays.

NORTON SIMON MUSEUM OF ART
411 West Colorado Blvd., Pasadena.
On view are seven centuries of European art from the Renaissance to the 20th Century
including works by such famous artists as Raphael, Botticelli, Rubens, Rembrandt,
Zurbaran, Watteau and Fragonard. The museum also features exceptional Indian and South
Asian sculpture, sculpture gardens, tours, a book shop with an extensive library of books
for sale.

PACIFIC ASIA MUSEUM
46 North Los Robles Ave. Pasadena.
This is the only museum in the Southwestern United States dedicated to the
preservation, promotion and understanding of the arts and culture of Asia and the Pacific.
Housed in the historic Grace Nicholson mansion the galleries offer traveling exhibitions
and displays from the renowned permanent collection.

PASADENA HISTORICAL MUSEUM

The l8-room Fenyes Estate, is a cultural landmark built in 1905 by Robert D. Farquhar.
The mansion gives a glimpse of the elegant life-style that existed on "Millionaire's
Row" at the turn-of-the-century with its original antique furnishings and paintings.
Also available for touring is the Finnish Folk Art Museum.

EL MOLINO VIEJO
1120 Old Mill Road San Marino.
El Molino Viejo serves as the Southern California headquarters of the California
Historical Society where changing exhibitions relating to the history of the state can be
seen. The Mill was built around 1816 by Indian labor and is the first water-powered grist
mill in Southern California.

EL ALISAL (LUMMIS HOME)

El Alisal is the headquarters of the Historical Society of Southern California. The
craftsman dwelling faced with arroyo stone was built by the founder of the Southwest
Museum Charles Fletcher Lummis, between 1898 and 1910.

SOUTHWEST MUSEUM

The collections of the Southwest Museum represent Native American cultures from Alaska

THE MUSEUM VILLAGE AT HERITAGE SQUARE

The museum, founded by the Cultural Heritage Foundation of Southern California, Inc.
interprets Southern California's history and culture between 1865 and 1914. The collection
includes excellent examples of Queen Anne/East-Lake, Italianate and Second Empire French
Mansard architecture.

ART CENTER COLLEGE OF DESIGN

The Art Center was founded in 1930 to provide an education that would qualify graduates
for immediate employment within the industry. Art Center's galleries house revolving
exhibits of students' work and exhibitions by national and international artists and

CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY TOURS

Caltech is a small, independent university that offers instruction in science and
engineering for a student body of 900 undergraduates and 1100 graduate students. With an
outstanding faculty, Caltech has become one of the world's major research centers. The
faculty and alumni have garnered 22 Nobel Prizes.
The Beckman Room is open Monday through Friday 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tours of the 124-acre

NINTH CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS

The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, located in the recently
renovated Vista Del Arroyo Hotel in Pasadena, is open to the public for Docent Guided

TOURNAMENT HOUSE AND WRIGLEY GARDENS

The 4.5 acre site housing the ornate mansion once owned by chewing gum manufacturer,
William Wrigley, Jr., today serves as headquarters for the Tournament of Roses
Association. Built between 1908 and 1914 guided tours are available from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
on Thursdays beginning in February and continuing through August. The formal gardens are
open year-round except for December 31 and January 1.

THE GAMBLE HOUSE
#4 Westmoreland Place, Pasadena.
Built for David and Mary Gamble in 1908 by Architects Greene and Greene. The Gamble
House is the internationally recognized masterpiece of the turn-of-the-century Arts and
Crafts Movement and a designated United States National Historic Landmark.
Guided tours are available to the public Thursday through Sunday between 12 p.m. and 3
p.m., except major holidays. Group tours are arranged during times other than public
hours.

LOS ANGELES STATE AND COUNTY ARBORETUM

Plants from around the world are displayed in sections in the 127-acre Los Angeles
State and County Arboretum based on their geographical origins. Educational landscape
displays include water conservation gardens, demonstration home gardens, tropical
greenhouse and rain forest area. A restored adobe ranch house and an ornate
Victorian-style cottage furnished with antiques are also highlights.

MOUNT WILSON OBSERVATORY
San Gabriel Mountains north of Pasadena.
Exit the Foothill (210) Freeway at Angeles Crest Highway (State Route 2) and follow the
signs 19 miles to the Observatory. Astronomers study the sun and other stars using
telescopes. Observatory grounds are open weekends from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., weather
permitting. Astronomical photographs are also displayed in the Observatory museum.
