SILVER LAKES is a planned urban development located in the town of Helendale, approximately 16 miles northwest of Victorville. It was founded in early 1970's by Justin Dart as the realization of his dream for an ideal resort community. The heart of the project is two lakes covering approximately 277 acres. Another 210 acres has been devoted to a championship 27-hole PGA-rated golf course which has attracted world class golfers. Many beautiful homes have been built along the fair-ways and overlooking the greens.

The Clubhouse contains diversified facilities including a large dining room with an inspiring view of the North Lake and the ring of mountains on the horizon, a cocktail lounge, meeting rooms, an exercise room with sauna, four excellent lighted tennis courts complete with viewing stands, and a large heated outdoor swimming pool. The outdoor Jacuzzi has a capacity of 15 bathers. The dining room and lounge are open to the public, but all other amenities are for property owners only.

 

The 3000 homesites in the Silver Lakes plan are approximately half built out. New construction is proceeding at a steady pace. It is easy to understand why, with the clear smog free High Desert air, warm sunny days, beautiful sunsets and cool evenings and the QUIET, away from the noisy hustle and bustle of cities "down the hill".

 

The Silver Lakes master plan includes provisions for shopping areas, parks and school sites. The community is presently served by the new Helendale Elementary School, and Riverview Middle School. A 40-acre high school site has been designated for future construction.

 

All underground facilities are in and paid for. The community water system has recently been upgraded with the addition of new wells pumping from the underground Mojave River aquifer to two new 2.5 million gallon storage tanks. A modern sewage system with off-site treatment plant recycles water to irrigate area farms and the Silver Lakes golf course.

Silver Lakes is served by the new U.S. Post Office (Helendale) located in the Vista Plaza shopping area. Fire protection is provided from a new fire station operated by the Division of Forestry, with two engines and one rescue vehicle.

 

Police protection is provided by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and there is a private 24-hour Security Patrol maintained by the Silver Lakes Association.

 

There are two shopping plazas located within the community, one on South Lake Plaza and the other at the Vista Road entrance. The latter (Vista Plaza) includes a well provisioned market with several gas pumps, a coin operated laundry, hairdressers, pet grooming, several eating establishments and other shops.

 

The non-denominational Silver Lakes Communitv Church provides opportunities for worship, bible study and a Christian Day School (K-8) in the local community.

 

The Inn at Silver Lakes provides hotel accommodations (50 rooms), elegant dining, executive conference and meeting rooms , and entertainment in the lounge.
