RESOLUTION 94-95-2
RESOLUTION OF THE GOVERNING BOARD OF
THE HELENDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT
TO SPONSOR THE 1994 HELENDALE RENDEZVOUS
WHEREAS, the Helendale community's strategic location on the Mojave River Trail made it
the frequent pathway of ancient Native Americans; and
WHEREAS, historical figures such as Father Garces (1776), Jedediah Strong Smith (1826),
"Pathfinder" John C. Fremont (1844) passed on the trail through this immediate
area; and
WHEREAS, the Spanish Mule Trains in the 1830's and the Mormon Wagon Trains and United
States Army Camels frequented this area in the 1850's; and
WHEREAS, Point of Rocks served as the earliest known identity of this community, which
was later named Helen and re-named Helendale; and
WHEREAS, the Helendale School District holds the honor of being known as the oldest
school district in the California High Desertt first organized as the Mojave School
District on February 4, 1877; and
WHEREAS, the Philosophy of the Helendale School District states, in part, that
"...we see ourselves as partners in providing our children with an understanding of
the past", and "...we will mutually focus on effective instruction that reflects
our local history....".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
That the Fifth Annual Helendale Rendezvous be recognized by this Board of Trustees as
an event of considerable worth to the children, families and citizenry of this community;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That the Helendale School District enter fully into sponsorship of the 1994 Helendale
Rendezvous.

fifteenth day of September, 1994.
